Luncheon Makes the Paper!!

The WIA program at TEC just became a little more famous! The Health & Culinary rotations made it into the "The Times Herald" Sunday paper. A wonderful thank you letter was published as follows:

No Name: "I would like to send out a big thank you to the St. Clair Tech Center for the program that provided lunch for the students' parents. It was a great and wonderful lunch. Thank you to the culinary arts students and workers who provided that lunch for us."

All of your work around here is definitely paying off and it shows!!! Thanks for making us proud!

Marwood trip to marysville park.

The group of Marwood workers took the seniors from Marwood Manor to the park on July 17th. The WIA workers served them food and beverages. Some even walked the seniors to the water, in their wheelchairs. Staff and residents enjoyed themselves!

Culinary and Health's big day!

Today is the day the Culinary and Health rotations had two guests of their choice come in and were served food made by the culinary participants and served by both health and culinary participants. A Picture Book

I've personaly taken it upon myself to get off-site photos. Since I'm in a stationary TEC-centered group, it would be unfair to others in my group and others centered here, thus I have voluntereed my camera to get photos and video interviews of off-site workers as they enjoy their summer work experience. Pine River will be taken today, Marwood tommorow and finaly SC4 on monday. That will conclude the off-site photo sessions. But for now, I thought you would enjoy a few pictures taken from on-site activities.

New pics coming soon!

What It's All About - by AmandaKay

WIA
or Workforce Investment Act ,not a particularly obvious title but I shall explain. Simply what it is, is a government enacted program designed to cator to people who aren't so well off. It helps kids graduate from high school by assisting with credit recovery and an initiative to do what they need to. It gives a chance to learn qualities needed in the workforce since it's gotten so hard to get a decent job nowadays. It'll even pay for some car repairs if you need it.

WIA was enacted in 1998 by some rather intuitive poiticians perhaps forseeing future perverbial road bumps in the economic status of our state. In the 10 years since it's start, it has helped hundreds of kids per year with the above mentioned things to help boost Michigan's workforce.

This year at the St Clair TEC [Technological Education Center] our county's WIA facilitators once again help assist with the four week summer career exploration. We have working with us this summer:

Facilitators:
Jennifer Brutyn: Algonac High School, Blue Water Learning Academy
Ann Harris: Capac High School, Crossroads Alternative, Phoenix Alternative, Yale High School
Jessica Hillock: Port Huron Northern High School
Dana Keller: Marine City High School, River View East High School, St. Clair High School
LaNeisha Murphy: Port Huron High School, Port Huron South
Lindsay Sheckler: Marysville High School, Memphis High School

TEC Administrators:
Fran Mcbride
Pat Yanik
John Wunch

Career Exploration Instructors:
Dave Draper - Groundskeeping
Janet Gerlach - Culinary
Rita Suchin - Health Careers
Melissa Todaro - Graphic/Visual Imaging
Sue Negowski - Culinary

Stationary Program Instuctors [Off Site]:
Carrie Bearrs - SC4
Russ Cushion - Pine River Beginner's Crew
Jonathan Smith - Pine River Advanced Crew
Beverly Walker - Marwood Manor
Sharon Wujcik - Algonac High Clerical Staff

They all are a huge part of keeping the program alive and running so well. a big THANK YOU! goes out to each of them.

Each student who enters the summer program gets a choice of the above programs and below is a seperate blog detailing each:

Groundskeeping
Marwood Manor
Pine River Nature Center
Health Career
Digital Media
SC4 Exploration
Culinary
Culinary Rotations

Each of the seperate blogs give a summary of the sub-program of which it's about. I have written this blog in the hopes of clearing up a few things. Maybe you were curious & had no idea such a program like this existed. Well, now that you do, I hope you'll realize what is out there and ever increase your knowledge of things outside your bubble. until next time
